STRIP LIGHTS
Strip lighting can create the most attractive lighting in a home or commercial property if done correctly. There are so many different types of styles and colours which can make selection difficult. Today in this article, read Everything You Need To Know About Strip Lighting.
BRIGHTNESS
Strip lights can produce between 100 lumens /metre and 3000 lumens/metre on a single row of strip. A light bulb or Downlight produces close to 1000 lumens. If you are using the strip light to light up a kitchen bench, bathroom basin or make up area, high lumens are very important. For decorative areas, lower lumens would be suitable.
LEDs/metre or DOTS Normally, higher lumen strip will have more LEDs/metre, 190 - 240, give bright and even distribution up to 3000 lumens/metre, however many lower output strips will have LEDs spaced out 30 - 60 LEDs/m which look uneven and unattractive (“Dot effect”). A new COB strip light is the best solution for lower lumens as it is a continuous strip with no dots which is very attractive, but still with 1200 lumens/metre and lower power requirements.

COLOUR
Colour can change the complete appearance. Not only full colour RGB (Red, Green, Blue) but even the white selection from 2700k Warm White to 6400k Cool White can make a big difference. Strip light is available in single colour - warm, natural or bright white, as well as CCT adjustable which lets you select your exact colour temperature and brightness. This is also available in COB which is dotless and very attractive.
January 28, 2022As time goes by, upgrading yourself and the things around you is essential. There are many types of ceiling fans available on the market and we have found that Australian households are confused about selecting the right fan according to their needs.
This article covers why DC Fans are better than AC Fans. Firstly, what is the difference? DC stands for (direct current) and AC fans are (alternating current).
I hope the information below will help you choose the right fan for your home.
Traditionally ceiling fans run on featured AC motors. Although AC fans are cheaper to manufacture, they are less energy-efficient than DC fans and AC ceiling fans only feature AC motors because residential properties have AC power.
Purchasing a DC fan for a bedroom gives you extremely quiet cooling at the lowest running cost. Up to 8x cheaper than an AC fan and up to 50 times cheaper than ducted air conditioning. The only noise is the sound of the airflow, and no buzzing motors, which softens the external noise of your environment and contributes to better sleeping and health.
Comparison between AC fans and DC Fans
• AC fans are up to 85% more expensive to run. A 35W DC fan can produce the same airflow as a 60W AC fan. The AC fan will always draw 60 watts (energy consumption) whereas a DC fan will draw as low as 7W on the lower setting which is used most frequently, saving up to 88% in running costs.
• AC fan motors are noisy, especially at night in a bedroom you will hear the motor hum as opposed to a DC fan which has no motor noise.
• AC fans need in-wall controllers which are more expensive to install; DC fans can be connected to normal wall switches.
• AC fans have limited speed options, normally 3; DC fans have 6 speed options on remo

- With single wiring on electronic switches there can be interference from lighting circuits and 1 x Load correction device on the circuit (normally installed in the first socket) may be required
- Load correction devices can assist with dimming and residual current which causes some LED globes to glow when switched off
- Smart lights require a load correction device on the circuit; this assists with stability and maintains the live circuit when using the App

December 14, 2020LED downlights have become the most common form of lighting in both homes and commercial installations. These can easily be sourced from numerous suppliers for under $10 and installation costs can be as low as $15 for replacing halogen lights, or between $20 and $35 for new installations. Builders can charge as high as $150 per fitting, and installed, so when installing downlights for a complete home, the savings can be high if you plan carefully.
In addition to the high cost, builders don’t always install the best or most appropriate options. They will often compromise the quality of the light to save a few dollars and do not offer selections that can change the lighting effect which can make your home ideal and set according to your preferences.
Good lighting in your home is an investment and therefore it is important to have a good understanding of all factors that should be considered.
This article will help you understand what choices are available, how to determine the quality of the fitting as well as tips for selecting and installing.
HOW TO COMPARE AND GET BETTER QUALITY DOWNLIGHTS:
1. LUMENS:
You are paying for light (Lumens), not Watts, so be careful not to select a downlight just by wattage. Although this is an indication, more efficient and better quality lights will have higher lumens/Watt that reduce your power usage. NB: Look for the output Lumens. Some suppliers and packaging will be misleading and will supply the LED chip lumens and not the actual output lumens. The output lumens will be about 15% less but sometimes even as much as half. If you are not sure from the packaging, do a comparison.
